Poland will create a sapper battalion on the border with Belarus and the Kaliningrad region, informed Polish Defense Minister Mariusz Blaszczak.
“A sapper battalion will be formed in Augustow. This is another military unit built by us from scratch, and I assure you, it will not be the last,” he wrote on Twitter. He added that the government is creating new and modernizing existing military units.
Augustow is located in northeastern Poland in the Suwalki corridor, which borders Belarus and the Russian Kaliningrad region.
On the territory of Belarus there are fighters of PMC “Wagner”. The military company ended up on the territory of the republic after an attempted armed rebellion in Russia, which was organized by the founder of PMC Evgeny Prigozhin on June 24. Then, according to Prigozhin, the fighters had 200 km to Moscow.
On July 20, the Belarusian Defense Ministry announced joint exercises with Wagner at the Brestsky training ground – 13 km from the Brest checkpoint on the border with Poland. After that, Blaschak announced the transfer of military units to the east of the country. Russian presidential spokesman Dmitry Peskov said that Poland’s actions were a matter of concern and called it “the aggressiveness of Poland.
