Germany would like to leave its Patriot anti-aircraft missile systems (SAM) in the NATO air defense system, said Arno Kollatz, spokesman for the German Defense Ministry.
“This is our contribution to NATO air defense. We also have an obligation to our partners to provide these resources next year to the rapid reaction forces, ”said Kollats (quote according to RIA Novosti).
According to him, Berlin will support Warsaw in protecting the airspace from external interference by strengthening the air patrol.
Poland had previously come up with the idea of deploying German Patriots in Ukraine rather than Poland. Before that, German Defense Minister Christina Lambrecht announced an agreement on patrolling Polish airspace by German Eurofighter fighters and the deployment of Patriot air defense systems in the country.
November 15 in Poland there was an incident with the fall of a rocket. Local media reported that two people were killed in the incident. On November 16, the Russian Ministry of Defense reported that specialists had identified the wreckage from photographs from the missile crash site in Poland as elements of the Ukrainian S-300 missile system. The department emphasized that all statements about the fall of supposedly Russian missiles on the territory of Poland are “a deliberate provocation in order to escalate the situation.”
Polish President Andrzej Duda, in turn, admitted that there is no evidence that the rocket that fell on Polish territory was fired by the Russian military. This version was also voiced by NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg, who admitted that a Ukrainian air defense missile had fallen.
