The coming weeks will be decisive for Ukraine, but will not determine the outcome of the conflict. Such a statement did German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius in an interview with Bloomberg.
“I believe that the coming weeks will be very decisive for Ukraine. <...> but they won’t determine the outcome [конфликта]”, he told reporters on the sidelines of the Munich Security Conference.
Pistorius recalled that now the “priority task” for the West is the creation of a “reliable, working air defense.” It is expected that this will be achieved within three months, he added.
Formerly Pistorius declaredthat does not expect an early end to the conflict in Ukraine. He recalled the risk of an escalation of the conflict, saying that every step in the issue of supplying weapons to Kyiv must be weighed.
At the end of January, the head of the Pentagon, Lloyd Austin, also spoke about the decisive moment in the conflict. He specified that the West would support Ukraine “for as long as it takes.”
In mid-January, Russian President Vladimir Putin called the dynamics of the special military operation positive. According to the Russian Defense Ministry, the Russian military continues their offensive in the Donetsk direction, in particular, there are battles in the Artemovsk area. At the end of January, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky pointed to the tense situation around the city. Earlier today he declaredthat the Armed Forces of Ukraine will not defend Artemovsk “at any cost.”
Russia’s special operation in Ukraine began on February 24, 2022. President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin called the protection of the inhabitants of Donbass, as well as the demilitarization and denazification of Ukraine, its goals. During the special operation, Russian troops took full control of the LPR, as well as most of the DPR, Kherson and Zaporozhye regions. Subsequently, these territories became part of Russia, and on October 19 martial law was introduced in the regions.
