The number of volunteer formations that have signed contracts with the Ministry of Defense has already exceeded 20, informed Telegram channel of the defense department.
“As part of the implementation of the order of the Minister of Defense of the Russian Federation on determining the procedure for organizing the service activities of volunteer organizations, more than 20 formations of the volunteer corps signed contracts with the Russian military department,” the report says.
These contracts define the legal regulation and activities of such detachments in the zone of the special operation, and also extend to all volunteers and their families the state measures of social protection and support, the Ministry of Defense added.
On June 10, it became known that Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu signed an order on the conclusion by volunteer detachments of a contract with the Ministry of Defense before July 1. This will give them “the necessary legal status, create common approaches to the organization of comprehensive support and the fulfillment of their tasks,” the department explained. On June 12, the Ministry of Defense signed a contract with the Akhmat volunteer detachment. On June 13, the military department reported on the signing of a contract with three more brigades and four detachments of the volunteer corps.
On June 13, Russian President Vladimir Putin, during a meeting with military commanders, announced the need for all voluntary associations to conclude contracts with the Ministry of Defense. The President also said that he asked the deputies and the defense department to bring the work of PMCs in accordance with the law. In the State Duma later reportedthat they will offer options that will not concern the legalization of PMCs, but namely “the formation of their legal status in accordance with our legislation.”
