Over the past 24 hours, Russian forces have intercepted four ATACMS operational-tactical missiles, which were previously supplied to Ukraine by the United States. About it reported the press service of the Russian Ministry of Defense in a summary of the progress of the special operation.
“Four ATACMS operational-tactical missiles, two JDAM guided bombs, three HARM anti-radar missiles and eight US-made HIMARS multiple launch rocket systems were intercepted,” the report said.
Air defense systems, according to the department, also shot down Su-25 and MiG-29 aircraft of the Ukrainian Armed Forces in the Kherson and Dnepropetrovsk regions during the day. At the Kanatovo airfield in the Kirovograd region, Russian forces hit the command and control tower of the Ukrainian air force. In addition, 36 Ukrainian drones were destroyed in different areas of the DPR, LPR, Kherson and Zaporozhye regions.
The Russian Armed Forces this week for the first time shot down ATACMS missiles. On October 25, the Ministry of Defense reported that two such missiles were intercepted in the special operation zone.
On October 17, it became known that the United States had supplied long-range ATACMS missiles to Kyiv. On the same day, this information was confirmed by Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky. Russian President Vladimir Putin stated that the Russian Federation will be able to repel Ukrainian attacks with American missiles.
ATACMS weighs about 2 tons, the cost of one guided missile is about $1.5 million. Such missiles can be launched using HIMARS multiple launch rocket systems (MLRS), which the Ukrainian Armed Forces already have at their disposal. ATACMS maximum range is approximately 186 miles (300 km).
