The Ministry of Defense announced the impact of the Armed Forces of Ukraine with cluster munitions on a group of journalists

Russian journalists on Saturday, July 22, came under fire from the Ukrainian military in the Zaporozhye region, four people were injured, military commander Rostislav Zhuravlev died from injuries as a result of a cluster submunition explosion, reported press service of the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation.

Earlier about the death of Zhuravlev wrote RIA Novosti agency. In addition, Konstantin Mikhalchevsky, a photojournalist of the agency, was injured during the shelling. Izvestiya reported that their employees were injured: correspondent Roman Polshakov and cameraman Dmitry Shikov were injured.

According to the Ministry of Defense, the Armed Forces of Ukraine launched an artillery strike on a group of journalists from Izvestia and RIA Novosti around noon. Journalists, as noted, were preparing materials about the artillery shelling of the Ukrainian Armed Forces with cluster munitions of settlements in the Zaporozhye region.

“As a result of the strike of the Armed Forces of Ukraine with cluster munitions, four journalists were injured of varying severity. The journalists were promptly evacuated to field medical facilities of the Russian Ministry of Defense, where they are provided with qualified medical care,” the report says.

Zhuravlev was injured as a result of a cluster submunition explosion, he died during the evacuation, the defense department added. The rest of the injured journalists are in a state of moderate severity, there is no threat to life.

On July 7, the White House announced the transfer of cluster munitions to Kyiv. Washington said Ukraine had provided the United States with written assurances that the ammunition would be used “with care.” On July 13, the Pentagon announced that weapons were already in Ukraine. The Russian Foreign Ministry considered such a step a “gesture of desperation,” and Denis Pushilin, acting head of the DPR, stressed that the transfer of cluster munitions would not affect the course of the special operation. The Kremlin warned that if Ukraine uses such weapons, Russia will be forced to take countermeasures.
