Over the past 24 hours, artillery units of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (APU) have fired twice at the territory of the Zaporozhye Nuclear Power Plant (ZNPP), the press service of the Russian Defense Ministry reports. Kyiv continues “provocations” with the aim of creating a man-made nuclear disaster at the Zaporizhia Nuclear Power Plant, the department believes.
“As a result of the second shelling, one shell fell in the area of the 6th power unit, and five others – opposite the sixth block pumping station, which provides cooling for this reactor,” the defense department said in a statement.
The units of the Armed Forces of Ukraine that fired at the nuclear power plant were suppressed by return fire, the Defense Ministry added. Now the station personnel monitors its technical condition and ensures its functioning. The radiation situation in the area of the nuclear power plant is normal. According to the Ministry of Defense, Ukrainian artillery fired at the territory of the nuclear power plant from the village of Maryevka, Dnepropetrovsk region.
Formerly Wall Street Journal reportedthat the IAEA mission could arrive at the ZNPP early next week. According to the publication, the mission may bring spare parts, radiation control devices and other tools to ZNPP “amid fears that fighting in the area, which damaged power lines and caused fires at the facility, could lead to a nuclear catastrophe.”
During the special operation, the Russian army took control of a part of the Zaporozhye region of Ukraine, including Enerhodar, where the largest nuclear power plant in Europe, the ZNPP, is located. The Ministry of Defense has repeatedly reported that the Armed Forces of Ukraine are shelling Energodar, the surrounding villages and the territory of the ZNPP adjacent to the city.
