The Ministry of Defense announced the evacuation of more than 200 people from Sudan

The Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation evacuated more than 200 citizens of Russia and a number of other countries from Sudan. About it reported department press office.

The decision was made by Russian President Vladimir Putin. In particular, employees of the diplomatic mission, representatives of the Ministry of Defense and their families were taken out of the republic. The Russian side also evacuated citizens of the CIS countries and several friendly states, who turned to Moscow “for assistance in their return to their homeland.”

Four Il-76 aircraft were involved in the evacuation.

RIA Novosti, citing a source writethat 203 people were taken out of Sudan, including citizens of the Russian Federation, Belarus, Kazakhstan and Ukraine. The interlocutor of the agency said that at first the planes flew to Cairo, and after refueling they went to Moscow.

Former Russian Ambassador to Sudan Andrey Chernovol informedthat by April 23, about 140 citizens of the Russian Federation applied to the embassy with a request for evacuation. In total, there are about 300 Russians in the republic, he specified.

Prior to this, the United States, Great Britain, Germany, Italy, France, Egypt and other countries also evacuated their citizens from Sudan.

Since April 15, full-scale battles have been going on in Sudan using all available weapons. The conflict erupted between the armed forces and the so-called Rapid Support Forces (RSF), a group created on the basis of Arab militias. The parties could not agree on how the RSF would be integrated into the Sudanese army.

Fighting is going on in a number of large cities of the republic, including the capital Khartoum. By data Ministry of Health of the country on April 26, during the conflict, the number of victims exceeded 500, more than 4100 people were injured.
