Airborne units blocked Artemovsk (Ukrainian name – Bakhmut) in the DPR from the northern and southern outskirts. This is reported by the Russian Ministry of Defense.
“In the Donetsk direction, assault detachments liberated three quarters in the northwestern, central and southwestern parts of the city of Artemovsk in a day. Airborne troops blocked the city from the northern and southern outskirts, ”- says in the April 19 report.
Support for the assault detachments was provided by aviation and artillery of the “Southern” group of troops, the department noted. Over the past 24 hours, aviation has made four sorties, and artillery has completed 67 fire missions. The Russian military stopped the counterattacks of the Armed Forces of Ukraine in the northwestern and central parts of Artemovsk. In total, the enemy lost up to 380 Ukrainian servicemen and one tank in the Donetsk direction, the Defense Ministry said.
In the Kupyansk direction, the Armed Forces (AF) of the Russian Federation stopped the actions of two Ukrainian sabotage and reconnaissance groups (DRGs). In this direction, the losses of the Armed Forces of Ukraine amounted to more than 120 people and one tank. Up to 75 Ukrainian soldiers were destroyed in the Krasnolymansk direction, and up to 30 in the Kherson direction.
The total losses of the enemy in the Yuzhno-Donetsk and Zaporozhye directions amounted to 120 people. In the same place, Russian troops stopped the actions of two more Ukrainian DRGs.
In addition, over the past day, Russian aviation destroyed two Ukrainian MiG-29 aircraft in the DPR and one Su-25 in the Kharkiv region. In the Ugledar region in the DPR, the Russian air defense system shot down another Su-25 of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
On the eve, April 18, the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation reported about taking control of three more quarters in Artemovsk. As a result, the loss of the Armed Forces of Ukraine in the Donetsk direction amounted to over 290 people. Now Russian forces control about 90% of Artemovsk, clarified Advisor to the Acting Head of the DPR Denis Pushilin Yan Gagin.
The Russian special operation in Ukraine began on February 24, 2022. According to the Russian Ministry of Defense, since the beginning of hostilities, the Russian Armed Forces have destroyed 411 aircraft and 228 helicopters. More than 3,770 drones were also shot down.
