The Ministry of Defense announced a meeting with the Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Myanmar

The Russian military met with the Chief of the General Staff of the Myanmar Armed Forces, Maung Maung Ayem. About it informs press service of the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation.
During the meeting, the stages of conducting a command-staff exercise on countering terrorism with the participation of ASEAN countries and dialogue partners (“SMOA Plus”) were discussed. Representatives of departments drew attention to the increased level of interaction between countries and the professionalism of the military personnel who participate in the events, the Russian Defense Ministry noted.
The day before, August 3, the Ministry of Defense reported about the start of the counter-terrorism drill in Myanmar. From the Russian side, officers of the General Staff of the RF Armed Forces, the Eastern Military District and the Pacific Fleet take part in the events. The delegation is headed by Lieutenant General Mikhail Nosulev, Deputy Commander of the Eastern Military District.
The military personnel of Brunei, Vietnam, India, Indonesia, Cambodia, China, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, Thailand and the Philippines are also involved in the training, the Ministry of Defense specified.
The Russian ministry explained that during the events, the military personnel are working out issues on creating a coalition of ASEAN countries to counter terrorist threats. They added that the goal of the training was “to develop a single plan, as well as coherence in the work of all levels of management.”
ASEAN was established in 1967. It includes Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand, Philippines, Brunei Darussalam, Vietnam, Laos, Myanmar, Cambodia. Russia is a dialogue partner state of the organization. The SMAA Plus mechanism has been operating since 2010. It involves interaction between the military departments of the ASEAN countries and dialogue partners.
