In Russia there are no prerequisites for jumps in vegetable prices. This was announced by the Minister of Agriculture Dmitry Patrushev during a meeting on the current situation and production forecasts in greenhouse vegetable growing, transmits press service of the Ministry of Agriculture.
“Dmitry Patrushev emphasized that, given production indicators, there are no justified prerequisites for price jumps, and called on business representatives to take measures that will quickly affect the cost of vegetables,” the message says.
It is noted that the meeting was also attended by heads of leading companies in the industry, representatives of the Ministry of Industry and Trade and the Federal Antimonopoly Service. Patrushev said that in recent years, vegetable growing, especially greenhouse production, has been growing. According to the Ministry of Agriculture, in 2022, vegetable production amounted to 7.2 million tons, and in protected soil exceeded 1.6 million tons.
This year the department also expects an increase, including in winter greenhouses – by another 1-2%.
According to Rosstat, since the beginning of the year, prices have increased by 5.07%. Weekly inflation in Russia from October 10 to 16 amounted to 0.15%. In particular, prices for fruits and vegetables increased by 0.4% on average. The largest increases were shown in prices for tomatoes (5.5%), bananas (1.3%) and onions (0.9%). The cost of a number of vegetables, on the contrary, decreased, including carrots and apples (1.8%), white cabbage (1.5%), potatoes (1.3%) and beets (0.8%).
