The Ministry of Agriculture proposed to establish quotas for the import of seeds to Russia

Russia will switch to a system of quotas for the supply of imported seeds, said First Deputy Minister of Agriculture Oksana Lut. This is due to the fact that now 90% of the seeds come from unfriendly countries, which is not consistent with the concept of food safety. “We lived on foreign seeds all the time. Even those suppliers who told us that they would never leave, they will receive some order from unfriendly countries, and 90% of the seeds are unfriendly countries,” Ms. Lut told reporters during a working trip to the Tomsk region (quoted from “Interfax”). Russia, given that such supplies are part of food security, cannot allow this, the First Deputy Minister noted. Therefore, we will switch to a quota system for the supply of imported seeds, gradually reducing quotas, Oksana Lut said.

On plans to control the purchases by regions of seeds of domestic selection for the sowing season of 2023 today, August 5, declared Minister of Agriculture Dmitry Patrushev.

Mr. Patrushev also warned about the possible risks of not reaching the 130 million ton grain harvest. Dmitry Patrushev said that in many subjects, due to the cold spring, farmers started harvesting later than planned. In some areas, the work itself is complicated by rain, high humidity and winds, Mr. Patrushev noted.
