The Ministry of Agriculture expects a grain harvest at the end of the year at the level of 123 million tons

The grain harvest in Russia, taking into account the new regions, will amount to about 123 million tons by the end of this year, informed Agriculture Minister Dmitry Patrushev at a meeting of Russian President Vladimir Putin with members of the government.
“The sowing campaign in the Russian Federation is going on normally. We expect a decent and, what is very important, a balanced harvest. We expect that in 2023 the volume of grain, taking into account the new regions, will be about 123 million tons, of which about 78 million tons is wheat,” he said.
Such volumes will ensure national food security and will allow to continue deliveries to foreign partners at the declared level, the minister stressed.
In the new subjects, winter crops for the 2023 harvest are sown on an area of about 1.3 million hectares, 95% of which are in good and satisfactory condition. The planned spring planting area in the new regions is 1.8 million hectares, he added, and is now completed on an area of 200,000 hectares. Taking into account the new regions, the total sown area in 2023 will exceed 85 million hectares.
According to Rosstat, the harvest of grain and leguminous crops in 2022 in the Russian Federation made up a record 157.6 million tons, which is 29.9% more than in 2021 (121.4 million tons). The wheat harvest amounted to 104.2 million tons (+37% compared to 2021), barley – 23.4 million tons (+30%), rye – 2.1% (+26.5%), corn – 15.8 million tons (+5%). In 2020, Russian farmers harvested 133.5 million tons of grain.
How informed Director of the Crop Production Department of the Ministry of Agriculture of Russia Roman Nekrasov, the export of Russian grain in the current agricultural year (since July 1, 2022) has reached 40 million tons. The target indicator of the Ministry of Agriculture for the export of grain from Russia in the 2022-2023 agricultural year is about 60 million tons.
