The Ministry of Agriculture announced a reduction in prices for a number of vegetables and fruits – Kommersant

Over the past month in Russia, prices for tomatoes decreased by 25.7%, for onions – by 23.1%, reported “Izvestia” at the Ministry of Agriculture. Also, the price of potatoes fell by 14.5%, cucumbers – by 6.8%, table beets – by 6.2%, apples – by 5.4%, carrots – by 4.4%.

The department said that a new crop from domestic producers is entering the market, which contributes to lower selling prices. It is expected that in August-September prices for vegetables will continue to decline. According to the Ministry of Agriculture, the share of imports in the vegetable market for the year is about 12%, fruits, including exotic ones, about 47%.

“It is worth noting that the task of providing citizens with affordable high-quality vegetables and fruits is one of the priorities in the agro-industrial complex of Russia,” the ministry added.

The decline in prices for fruits and vegetables is typical for the end of summer – the beginning of autumn. Deflation in the Russian Federation in August 2022 amounted to 0.52%, vegetables and fruits made the largest contribution to this. Beets then fell in price by 24.8%, carrots – by 24.2%, potatoes – by 22.7%, cabbage – by 22.5%, cucumbers – by 22.2%, tomatoes – by 18.5%, grapes — by 18.3%, onions — by 14.9%, bananas — by 11.6%

Last week Russian restaurateurs complainedthat the increase in prices for chicken and pork from suppliers from the beginning of March to the end of July amounted to 20-30%. They also announced problems with the supply of chickens from the Belgorod region and the Stavropol region. The Federal Antimonopoly Service will check the prices of the three largest poultry meat producers. The Ministry of Agriculture attributed the rise in prices to the seasonal factor.
