New to the repertoire of online cinemas: the prequel Game of Thrones, the history of American baseball and the annual British drama about marriage.

“Their Own League”

The series is based on the 1992 comedy of the same name with Tom Hanks, Madonna and Geena Davis. The plot is this: 1943, World War II, in the United States, including baseball team players, were mobilized – so that a women’s baseball league was formed in the country. The comedy follows the formation of professional women’s baseball, its major players and how they fought for their place in the baseball world despite empty stadiums, canceled games, injuries, sexual harassment and grueling journeys through a rapidly changing country. The release of the original film, whose feminist message was quite revolutionary at that time, was overshadowed by the fact that Madonna managed to quarrel with all her colleagues. These problems, however, do not wait for the new version. Series creators Abby Jacobson and Will Graham have already said they want to – no more, no less – start the conversation that the official history of American baseball needs to be revised.

“House of the Dragon”

The prequel to Game of Thrones, one of the most anticipated shows of the year (only comparable to The Lord of the Rings, which comes out in September), is set 200 years before the events of the original show. House of the Dragon will tell how members of the Targaryen family quarreled with each other and how the chain of events that led to the war in the Game of Thrones was launched. Game of Thrones showrunners David Benioff and Daniel Brett Weiss did not take part in the filming, but fans were reassured by the original author (The House is based on George R. R. Martin’s book Fire and Blood), who said that “the script, direction and the acting is amazing. I take my hat off to the entire team and also to our amazing cast.” It stars Olivia Cooke, Matt Smith (ex-Doctor Who and Robert Mapplethorpe) and Rhys Ifans.

“Marriage”

Every year in England there is one “family show”, thanks to which a somewhat outdated genre receives another reprieve. Americans, for example, have a hard time with this venerable genre (with a few exceptions like “Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf?”) due to the lack of the required sense of humor, but in Shakespeare’s homeland, it’s all right. Last year was marked by Rafe Spall’s “Not on the First Try” about a couple trying to adopt a child, this one is “Marriage.” A classic two-hander staged for two British legends – Sean Bean (a rare case, as they say, when the star of The Lord of the Rings does not die at the very beginning of the film) and Laurence Olivier Award winner Nicola Walker, who are celebrating their 27th wedding anniversary and understand that it might be easier to disperse. In the director’s chair – Stefan Golaszewski, student president of the Footlights Club at the University of Cambridge, where Stephen Fry, Hugh Laurie, Emma Thompson and half of Monty Python came from.
