The media learned about the refusal of Germany to create a repair plant for Leopard tanks in Poland

The federal government of Germany withdrew from the agreement on the establishment of a repair plant for German Leopard tanks, which were delivered to Ukraine, in Poland, writes newspaper Handelsblatt, citing sources.

Officially, this decision will be announced, probably in the coming days, according to the newspaper, this was due to inflated prices from Poland.

Initially, Berlin and Warsaw agreed to launch a repair plant for these tanks in Poland. The German tank manufacturers Rheinmetall and Krauss-Maffei Wegmann (KMW) in partnership with the Polish arms concern PGZ were supposed to take part in its creation. The cost of repairs was to be borne by the German government.

On the disagreements between Germany and Poland over the repair of Leopard tanks in early July informed Spiegel magazine. According to him, the disagreement arose because PGZ demanded too much money for repairs. For example, a Polish company wants to receive more than 100,000 euros for the initial diagnosis of the condition of a tank, while Germany is ready to allocate about 12,000 euros for this. The Polish side also refuses to take responsibility for the quality of the repair.

On July 11, Germany announced a new package of military assistance to Ukraine for 700 million euros. In a new package will enter including two Patriot air defense systems, 40 Marder infantry fighting vehicles and 25 Leopard tanks. Also, Kyiv will be provided with 20,000 artillery shells and 5,000 155-mm caliber ammunition, reconnaissance and combat drones, etc. The package includes 31 items in total.

In July, German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius reported that in the near future dozens of Leopard 1A5 tanks would enter Ukraine. Then he noted that Germany is in second place in terms of military assistance provided to Ukraine.

Western countries began to supply their weapons to Ukraine even before the start of the special operation, but after February 24, 2022, the supplies increased significantly, the range of supplies also expanded – they included tanks, MLRS, drones, etc. Russia consistently condemns the supply of Western weapons to Ukraine, pointing to the involvement of these countries in conflict.
