The Investigative Committee opened a criminal case against the co-chairman of the Golos movement (recognized as a foreign agent in Russia) Grigory Melkonnets on the fact of organizing the work of an undesirable NGO in Russia. About it writes RIA Novosti, citing sources.
According to the publication, as part of the investigation of the criminal case, the security forces conducted searches of both Melkonyants himself and 14 of his associates. The searches took place in eight regions of Russia, including Moscow, St. Petersburg and Kazan.
A case was initiated against Melkonyants under Part 3 of Art. 284.1 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation. The maximum penalty provided for under this article is deprivation of liberty for up to six years.
Grigory Melkonyants is 42 years old. He works as a lawyer, appears in the media as an electoral expert and co-chairman of the “Voice” movement, which monitors the elections.
The movement was founded in 2000 and recognized as a foreign agent in 2013. Later, in 2016, it was liquidated at the suit of the Ministry of Justice. However, she continued to work as an unregistered person. In 2021, Golos was included in the register of unregistered organizations-foreign agents.
