According to the publication, Egypt often advocates that Palestine and Israel resolve emerging conflicts within their borders. Cairo believes that “this is the only way the Palestinians can ensure their right to statehood,” the agency writes.
At the same time, Egypt, in negotiations with the United States, Qatar and Turkey, discussed the idea of delivering humanitarian aid across the border with the Gaza Strip – the Rafah checkpoint, which remains closed after the Israeli army carried out several strikes on the Palestinian part of the border crossing on October 10.
On the same day, EU foreign policy chief Josep Borrell, reported that the Council of the European Union called for respect for international law and the opening of humanitarian corridors for the evacuation of the population of the Gaza Strip to Egypt.
October 9 Israeli Ministry of Defense announced about a complete blockade of the Gaza Strip. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said the government had decided to cut off supplies of electricity, fuel and goods to Gaza. By doing so, the country would deprive these groups of “the ability and desire to threaten and harm Israeli citizens for many years,” he said.
On the morning of October 7, the Palestinian group Hamas began military operations against Israel. The militants attacked the army’s border units and freely entered Israeli populated areas, where they captured an unknown number of hostages, both military and civilian. The Israeli Army (IDF) responded by launching Operation Iron Swords, and the Israeli government announced that the country had entered a state of war.
According to the latest data, the number of victims of the Palestinian-Israeli conflict has exceeded 2,400 people. In particular, earlier the Palestinian Ministry of Health reported that the death toll had reached almost 1,200 people and 5,600 injured. At the same time, the Israeli side reported 1,300 dead and 3,300 injured. Among the victims were four Russian citizens who also had Israeli citizenship.
