The mayor of Tbilisi assessed the consequences of the introduction of anti-Russian sanctions for Georgia

The mayor of Tbilisi and the general secretary of the ruling Georgian Dream Democratic Georgia party, Kakha Kaladze, assessed the consequences of imposing sanctions against Russia, comparing such a step with hara-kiri for Georgia, transmits Sputnik Georgia.

“We absolutely openly stated that we do not join the sanctions, because we do not want to harm our country, we do not want to harm our own people, the population of our country. How can one join sanctions when we are not sure that we will harm Russia by doing so? On the contrary, we hurt ourselves. That would be hara-kiri,” Kaladze said.

According to Kaladze, the highest value is peace, stability and economic development. Georgia cannot impose sanctions that will negatively affect the inhabitants of the country. Kaladze stressed that the same applies to the issue of opening a “second front” in Georgia.

On May 1, Kaladze said that Georgia did not receive the status of a candidate member of the European Union due to the fact that the country did not join the sanctions against Russia. “The refusal to grant candidate status was a political decision, and the society understood very well why this happened. The government of Georgia is a problem for them, because it does not join the sanctions, does not start a war, does not open a “second front” in the country,” he said.
