The forced transition to the Ukrainian language of citizens who spoke Russian all the time will cause “resistance”. This opinion was expressed by the mayor of Kharkov Igor Terekhov in a commentary to the France-Press agency.
“Insisting that people give up the Russian language is not the best way,” the head of the city believes.
Terekhov also noted that it would be very difficult for the older generation, who have spoken Russian throughout their lives, to switch to Ukrainian. According to him, the “boycott” of the Russian language has caused resistance from those citizens who believe that it does not belong to Russia, and its use is not a sign of lack of patriotism.
