Press Secretary of the Russian President Dmitry Peskov said that it is important for the Kremlin that the leaders of Western states became familiar with the position of the Russian Federation by watching Vladimir Putin’s interview with American journalist Tucker Carlson. This is how he commented on the critical statements of German Chancellor Olaf Scholz and British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak about the content of the interview.
“Apparently, they are familiar with the content of the interview, and this is the main thing for us. They heard once again: they, in fact, as the heads of executive power of their states, they already had the opportunity to constantly get acquainted with the position of Russian President Putin, and now it is fully presented to them. As far as I understand, they took advantage of this opportunity. This is the main thing,” Mr. Peskov emphasized during the conference call.
According to him, Messrs. Scholz and Sunak criticized the interview of Russian President Tucker Carlson solely “for the sake of the situation in which their countries now find themselves, and for the sake of trying to somehow explain themselves to their taxpayers.”
British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak, commenting on the interview with the Russian President, called it “frankly ridiculous.” According to him opinion, Vladimir Putin’s statements about NATO’s responsibility for the start of the military conflict in Ukraine have nothing to do with reality. German Chancellor Olaf Scholz stated, that the interview with the Russian President “mocks the real actions of Russia in Ukraine” and tells “an absurd story about the causes of this war.” Olaf Scholz believes that Russia wants to gain control over part of Ukraine.
