Press Secretary of the President of Russia Dmitry Peskov believes that the privatization mechanism works well in most industries. However, he stressed that it is impossible to “squander” state assets “for a pittance”. “Such ideas are really constantly on the agenda. Then there is the question of profitability. The main thing is not to squander state property for next to nothing. But the fact that it should eventually fall into private hands and become more profitable, more efficient, create new jobs is unequivocal,” said Dmitry Peskov, answering a question from Kommersant during a press call.
Mr. Peskov confirmed that many people in the economic bloc of the government support the idea of privatization. “Privatization is always the end result, perhaps with the exception of a number of industries where the private sector simply cannot physically ensure the consolidated development of the industry,” he added.
With the idea of restarting privatization in May spoke Head of VTB Andrey Kostin. In his opinion, privatization can become a source of funds for creating a new growth model for the Russian economy. Today, June 15, at the SPIEF session, this idea supported Elvira Nabiullina said that in Russia “there is something to privatize” without prejudice to the country’s strategic interests.
