Russian President Vladimir Putin, at an extended meeting of the board of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, again commented on the terrorist attack in the Crocus City Hall near Moscow. According to him, the organizers and perpetrators of the terrorist attack wanted to provoke a surge of xenophobia and Islamophobia in the country. The President called to prevent division and panic within the country.

“It is unacceptable, I want to emphasize this, to use recent tragic events to provoke national hatred, xenophobia, Islamophobia and so on. Actually, this was the main goal of the terrorists and their customers – first of all, to sow discord and panic, discord and hatred in our country, to split Russia from within,” he said (quoted from website Kremlin).

Mr. Putin also recalled the need to combat any manifestations of extremism, the spread of which is influenced, among other things, by illegal migration. According to the president, in such conditions there is “an ideological pumping of various kinds of false preachers.”

The day before, April 1, the Ministry of Internal Affairs completed work on a bill to tighten government control in the field of migration. The law will oblige foreigners to take biometrics and will also reduce the period of their stay in the country to 90 days a year.

Four natives of Tajikistan are accused of committing a terrorist attack in Crocus: Murodali Rachabalizoda, Shamsidin Fariduni, Dalerjon Mirzoev and Muhammadsobir Fayzov. They were detained shortly after the shooting at the concert complex. The Basmanny court arrested them on the night of March 25.
