The price of the M-12 Moscow-Kazan road has increased by 30% compared to the estimated estimate of 2017, and now amounts to just over 800 billion rubles, Vyacheslav Petushenko, chairman of the board of the Avtodor state company, said in an interview with Kommersant. The increase in price is due to a number of reasons, he said, including new data and conditions identified at the design stage, which could not have been foreseen at the feasibility study stage.
“For example, in the Nizhny Novgorod region and Chuvashia, a huge number of karst phenomena or, more simply, voids in the ground, were discovered,” Vyacheslav Petushenko explained. – In the Vladimir region, we changed the routing after talking with the local population, we also provided for a bypass of a specially protected natural area – Meshchera Park. As a result, the length of the M-12 route increased by 15.9 km.” Among the reasons for the rise in the cost of the estimate, Vyacheslav Petushenko also mentioned the “dramatic rise in the price of building materials”, which began in 2021 and continues in this year.
