The chairman of the Communists of Russia party, Sergei Malinkovich, sent signatures in his support to the Central Election Commission for registration as a candidate in the presidential elections. The party provided 19 boxes of signatures to the CEC. According to Mr. Malinkovich, the headquarters collected “more than 100 thousand with a good reserve.”
“They were collected all over the country. In cold weather, fire, frost, the communists and party employees met with very serious support, which I am especially glad about, from the population and workers,” Mr. Malinkovich told reporters (quoted by TASS).
Sergei Malinkovich became the second presidential candidate to submit signatures in his support to the CEC. Prior to this, current President Vladimir Putin provided 315 thousand signatures in his support for registration.
11 people announced their intention to run for president. The Central Election Commission registered three candidates from parliamentary parties – Leonid Slutsky (LDPR), Nikolai Kharitonov (Communist Party of the Russian Federation) and Vladislav Davankov (New People). Self-nominated candidates – the Russian Rada and Anatoly Batashev – need to collect at least 300 thousand signatures and submit them to the CEC by January 31.
The remaining candidates – nominees from non-parliamentary parties – Boris Nadezhdin (Civic Platform), Andrey Bogdanov (Russian Freedom and Justice Party), Sergei Baburin (Russian All-People’s Union) and Irina Sviridova (Democratic Party of Russia) – must provide at least 100 thousand signatures.
