The head of the Ministry of Energy of the Russian Federation, Nikolai Shulginov, said that the timing of the launch of the united Russian-Belarusian electricity market is being shifted. It was planned that the market would be launched on January 1, 2024.

According to him, at the moment the launch date of the Russian-Belarusian energy market is unknown. “We have made progress in many ways, but the launch of the joint energy market is divided into stages and has not been fully decided. But we have already advanced, there is already an interstate agreement, but it will come into force later,” Mr. Shulginov told reporters (quoted from TASS).

In November, the Belarusian Ambassador to Russia Dmitry Krutoy reported that an informal agreement on the functioning of a single energy market between the two countries was “already working,” but the agreement itself had not yet been signed. Also, according to him, an agreement is being worked out on the creation of a common Russian-Belarusian gas market, which will take into account “Western sanctions pressure on members of the Union State.” The timing of the signing of both agreements has not yet been announced.
