The precious stone weighing 390.7 carats was mined by the Almazy Anabara company, part of Alrosa.
“The diamond found is a light crystal of irregular shape, bordered by a yellow-brown halo – a combination of mass, shape and color that is unique today,” the report says.
The company’s workers discovered the crystal on September 9 during night washing of the diamond-bearing sands at the Ebelyakh site of the Mayat mine. A large colorless diamond weighing 37.7 carats with a classic octahedral shape was also mined there. Both crystals were sent for expert assessment of morphological characteristics.
Previously, the largest gem-quality diamond weighing 401 carats was found in 2013.
