The Philippines is interested in supplies of petroleum products from Russia. The countries can discuss the corresponding issue in October during the trade and economic commission, said the Ambassador of the Philippines to Russia Igor Baylen.
“As far as I know, there have been no supplies of petroleum products yet. But there is definitely such interest. There are certain issues that we are currently addressing. I hope that next month there will be a meeting between representatives of the Russian Federation and the Philippines during the joint commission on trade and economic cooperation and oil will be discussed there. But there are no details yet,” Mr. Baylen told RIA Novosti.
The Russian-Philippine Commission on Trade and Economic Cooperation was created in November 2015. The commission’s third meeting is due to take place in October in the Philippine capital of Manila.
Russia expressed readiness to supply fuel to the Philippines as early as June 2022. During a meeting with Russian Ambassador Marat Pavlov, Philippine President Bongbong Marcos said that in the context of rising oil prices, supplies of Russian fuel could help the country stabilize the internal situation. “We discussed this area of cooperation and found that in this turbulent period of our life, the Russian Federation could lend a helping hand to the Philippines with much-needed oil, gas and other energy sources,” Mr. Pavlov said at a briefing following the meeting.
