The Kremlin welcomed the first results of the investigation into the incident at Nord Stream

The Kremlin welcomed the confirmation by the Swedish Security Service (SEPO) of information that “serious sabotage” was behind the emergency on the two gas pipelines Nord Stream and Nord Stream 2. This was announced by the press secretary of the President of Russia Dmitry Peskov.

“The very fact that data has already begun to come in in favor of confirming a sabotage act or a terrorist act – you can call it whatever you like, this once again confirms the information that the Russian side had and has. It is very important not to stop, it is very important to find the one behind this explosion,” he said.

Peskov also noted that the timing of the repair is unknown. “It is necessary to analyze the damage data before experts give an opinion on the prospects for recovery,” he stressed.

Earlier today in the press service of the Swedish Security Service reportedthat during the inspection of the emergency site around the two gas pipelines, extensive damage was documented, and remains of explosives were found. SEPO clarified that the work on the analysis is ongoing. “A preliminary investigation should show whether someone can be charged with suspicion and then prosecuted,” the department stressed.

In early October, SEPO announced the completion of an investigation into incidents on gas pipelines, as well as the identification of signs of “gross sabotage.” Then, as part of the study of what happened, the service stated that explosions became the cause of the damage to the Nord Streams in the exclusive economic zone (EEZ) of Sweden.

On the night of September 26, pressure dropped in two Nord Stream gas pipelines. Subsequently, four leaks were discovered: two of them are in the Swedish EEZ, and two more in the Danish EEZ. Later, the head of European diplomacy, Josep Borrell, said that the incidents on the pipelines were premeditated, and the Kremlin admitted that it could be a “terrorist attack at the state level.” On September 30, speaking in the Kremlin, Russian President Vladimir Putin openly blamed the West for what had happened.
