The Kremlin urged the Russians to be careful because of the unrest in Georgia

Moscow has nothing to do with the protests in Tbilisi and does not want to comment on what is happening in the country. At the same time, Russian authorities are urging Russians to refrain from traveling to areas where street riots are taking place. This was announced by the press secretary of the President of the Russian Federation Dmitry Peskov.

“We do not have the slightest desire to comment or interfere in these matters in any way. We don’t have any relationship. But, of course, we recommend our citizens to be extremely careful,” he said.

Peskov added that the protests in Georgia “cannot but cause concern” for Russia, despite the absence of “relations per se” between the countries. The Kremlin spokesman added that the security of the Russian-Georgian border is important for Moscow. According to him, “the situation leaves much to be desired.”

Against the background of the adoption in the first reading of the bill on foreign agents, protests began in Tbilisi on March 7. The bill was criticized by Georgian President Salome Zurabishvili, promising to veto it. After the demonstrations and clashes with the police in Tbilisi, as well as the forceful dispersal of the protesters, Zurabishvili supported the protesters in a video message to the Georgian people. Demonstrations and clashes with the police continued in Georgia on March 8 and on the night of March 9.

Earlier today, the parliamentary majority led by the Georgian Dream bloc withdrew draft law on foreign agents from the Parliament of Georgia. Despite this, the opposition promised continue the protests.
