The Kremlin spoke about the negotiations between Putin and Xi Jinping

During the talks, Russian President Vladimir Putin and Chinese President Xi Jinping will exchange views and compare notes on international affairs and regional conflicts. This was announced by presidential press secretary Dmitry Peskov.

“First of all, Russian-Chinese bilateral relations will be discussed. Since the relations are advanced, relations of strategic partnership, the agenda is very, very extensive – economic interaction, joint projects. And, besides this, every time there is an exchange of opinions, a synchronization of watches on international affairs, on regional conflicts, including, of course, Ukraine,” he said.

Peskov also noted that during the negotiations, Putin will most likely give his assessment of the special operation, and Xi Jinping will express his opinion on international issues. In addition, Peskov admitted that the parties will discuss the Palestinian-Israeli conflict. “This is now a topic that is high on the agenda of all world leaders. You know that before he left for Beijing, Putin held a telephone marathon on Middle Eastern affairs. Therefore, we will exchange opinions. Moreover, the situation is developing quite quickly, tension remains,” he said.

It is expected that on October 18, the leaders of Russia and China will continue to communicate in a narrow format, and later – face to face. “That’s all tomorrow. Tomorrow is the day of Russian-Chinese relations, emphasis on this,” Peskov added. The Kremlin representative recalled that Putin is also scheduled to speak at the III International Forum “One Belt, One Road” on October 18.

According to Peskov, the reception of the Russian delegation was “as always at a high level” with the traditional goodwill and hospitality of China. He noted that there will be intense work over the next two days.

Putin arrived to Beijing for a two-day visit early on the morning of October 17. In addition to participating in the “One Belt, One Road” forum and negotiations with Xi Jinping, the Russian president is scheduled to have bilateral meetings with Vietnamese President Vo Van Thuong, Thai Prime Minister Sretta Taweesin, Mongolian President Ukhnagiin Khurelsukh and Laotian President Thongloun Sisoulith. In the Kremlin press service reportedthat a meeting with the President of Vietnam has already taken place. Leaders of 23 states will come to the forum in Beijing. The theme of the current forum will be “High-quality cooperation within the framework of the One Belt, One Road”.
