The Kremlin said there were no prerequisites for negotiations on Ukraine

Now Moscow does not see the prerequisites for the conflict in Ukraine to go into a “peaceful channel,” said Russian presidential spokesman Dmitry Peskov, answering a question about how the Kremlin evaluates China’s peace plan to resolve the conflict in Ukraine.

“We repeat once again that at the moment we do not see any prerequisites for the release of this whole story in a peaceful direction. As long as the SVO continues, we are moving towards achieving the goals that have been set,” Peskov said.

According to him, any attempts to work out a plan to promote the transfer of the conflict in a “peaceful direction” deserve attention. “We treat the plan of our Chinese friends with such great attention,” Peskov said. However, he stressed that the details of the plan should be carefully analyzed.

February 24 China introduced their proposals for the settlement of the conflict in Ukraine. The political settlement of the conflict in Ukraine should be based on respect for sovereignty and the rejection of the Cold War mentality, followed from China’s position on this issue. The document was published on the website of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the country. It consists of 12 items.

Among them, the cessation of hostilities and the promotion of the beginning of a dialogue between Moscow and Kyiv; the start of peace talks, which are the “only real way out” of the Ukrainian crisis; reducing strategic risks, countering the use or threat of use of nuclear weapons; implementation of an agreement on the export of Ukrainian grain from the Black Sea ports, etc.

Peskov has repeatedly stated that there are no prospects for negotiations with Ukraine. In particular, the Kremlin spokesman spoke about this at the end of January. He declaredthat now there are no prospects for resolving the conflict in Ukraine through diplomacy. When asked by journalists about where options alternative to a military solution could come from, Peskov said that in order to answer, he would have to immerse himself in a long reflection. He suggested leaving “this bread” to political scientists.
