Russian President Vladimir Putin will hold a meeting on the socio-economic development of Crimea and Sevastopol on March 17 – on the eve of the day Crimea joins Russia, Dmitry Peskov, spokesman for the Russian president, said.
“In connection with the day of the reunification of Crimea with Russia, there will be a meeting on the socio-economic development of Crimea and Sevastopol on the eve of Friday, March 17, via videoconference, a working, substantive meeting, and directly on the day of reunification, March 18, on Saturday there will be another videoconference,” – Peskov told reporters.
On the plans of the head of state to hold a meeting on the eve of the day of the reunification of Crimea with Russia informed Peskov. At the same time, the press secretary said that Putin also had events planned for the holiday itself. According to Peskov, “a rather important object – cultural, historical” will be opened in Crimea. In connection with this event, the head of state is scheduled to have a video conference.
The Kremlin spokesman noted that in general, the Russian president will have a “very eventful” week this week. At the same time, Peskov did not announce all the upcoming events, specifying only that “there will be more international contacts this week.”
The day of the reunification of Crimea with Russia is celebrated on March 18.
Crimea became part of Russia in 2014 after a referendum. According to its results, 96.77% of voters in the Republic of Crimea and 95.6% in Sevastopol were in favor of joining Russia. Nevertheless, Kyiv continues to insist that Crimea is Ukrainian territory. According to Putin, the issue of Crimea is “finally closed.”
