Press Secretary of the Russian President Dmitry Peskov said that the Kremlin does not track the location of opposition leader Alexei Navalny. Earlier, the politician’s press secretary Kira Yarmysh (recognized as a foreign agent) reported that Navalny was no longer listed in IK-6 and his whereabouts were unknown.
“No, we have neither the intention nor the ability to monitor the fate of prisoners and the process of their stay in the relevant institutions,” Dmitry Peskov said during a press call.
When asked about reports from the US government about “concerns” about the whereabouts of the opposition leader, the spokesman said that interference in this matter by other countries is unacceptable.
In February 2021, Alexei Navalny was sentenced to two years and eight months in prison in the Yves Rocher case (fraud; Article 159 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation). In March 2022, he was sentenced to nine years on new charges of fraud and insulting a judge (Article 297 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation). In August of this year, the oppositionist was sentenced to 19 years in a special regime colony in a case of extremism.
