The Kremlin has no hope that the change of the British ambassador to Russia will allow transferring relations between the two countries in a constructive direction. This was announced by the press secretary of the President Dmitry Peskov.
Answering the question whether there are hopes in the Kremlin that relations with the new ambassador could move to a constructive one, Peskov said: “No, none.”
On August 2, the British government announced that career diplomat Nigel Casey, who has been working at the British Foreign Office since 1991, will become ambassador to Russia from November. For almost two years, from May 2021 to January 2023, he was the Prime Minister Afghanistan and Pakistan. At the same time, he headed the Afghanistan and Pakistan Office (APD) at the British Foreign Office. Casey was already based in Moscow from 2003 to 2006 when he was First Secretary at the British Embassy in Russia.
The current Ambassador Deborah Bronnert will move to another diplomatic post. She has served as British Ambassador since 2020, succeeding Laurie Bristow, who has been Ambassador to Russia for four years.
