The Kremlin has great respect for Senator Nikolai Ryzhkov, who left the Federation Council (FC), and his contribution to the development of the country. This was stated by the press secretary of the Russian President Dmitry Peskov.
“Of course, it is probably difficult to overestimate the contribution of people like Ryzhkov to the development of our country. How much they did for people, how they spent their energy, their health,” he said.
Peskov added that such people “can only be admired and children can be taught by their example.”
Chairman of the Federation Council Valentina Matvienko prematurely terminated the powers of the oldest senator, 94-year-old Ryzhkov, on September 25. Since 2003, he represented the government of the Belgorod region in the upper house of parliament. The governor of the region, Vyacheslav Gladkov, has not yet announced who he will send to the Federation Council instead of Ryzhkov.
Ryzhkov October 3 reported TASS that he can continue to work after the early termination of his senatorial powers as an adviser to Matvienko.
As Vedomosti previously wrote, after Ryzhkov left the Federation Council, the oldest senator became the 79-year-old former Secretary of State of the Union State of Russia and Belarus Grigory Rapota. Since 2021, he represents the government of the Kursk region in the upper house.
