Russian presidential spokesman Dmitry Peskov declined to comment on media reports about the upcoming meeting between Vladimir Putin and North Korean leader Kim Jong-un.

“We have nothing to say to you on this topic,” he replied to reporters when asked to comment on The New York Times publication about the upcoming meeting.

On September 5, Vedomosti sources said that Putin could visit the Far East during the days of the WEF.

Earlier, the NYT, citing sources, said that Kim Jong-un plans visit Russia in September to meet with Putin. According to the publication, the leaders of the two countries will meet at the Eastern Economic Forum (WEF) in Vladivostok, scheduled for September 10-13. There is also a possibility that the North Korean leader will come to Moscow, but there is no certainty about this.

The newspaper, citing Western officials, claims that Russia and North Korea allegedly plan to agree on cooperation in the military sphere, including the supply of weapons.

The last time Kim Jong-un visited Russia was in April 2019, when he met with Putin in Vladivostok. This was the first meeting between the leaders of the two countries, as well as the first trip of a North Korean leader to Russia since he came to power in 2011. The Russian president came to North Korea on an official visit only once – in 2000, when the country was led by the father of the current leader North Korea – Kim Jong Il.
