The information that French President Emmanuel Macron and German Chancellor Olaf Scholz are not connected to talk with Russian leader Vladimir Putin is not true, the president is open for communication, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said.
“No, this is not true, indeed both Scholz and Macron and their representatives spoke about the importance of maintaining a dialogue with Russia, including at the highest level. We share this point of view, so far there have been no concrete proposals to hold telephone conversations. The President confirmed as recently as yesterday that he remains open for communication,” the Kremlin said.
Scholz said last week that intends to have a telephone conversation with Putin again. After that, Peskov said that the president does not yet have plans to have a telephone conversation with the German chancellor.
Putin remains open to any contacts that could lead to a solution to the “Ukrainian problem” declared June 16 in the Kremlin. On June 11, Peskov said that now there is no foundation, even a flimsy one, in order to build at least some kind of dialogue with Ukraine. According to Peskov, the Ukrainian authorities do not want this, and also they are not “allowed by the owners.”
Several countries have already proposed their plans to resolve the conflict. In February, the Chinese Foreign Ministry presented a 12-point program that included the cessation of hostilities. Peace initiatives were also offered by Indonesia, Brazil, South Africa. However, the head of the office of the Ukrainian president, Mikhail Podolyak, said that any negotiation process with Russia is impossible on the basis of the proposals of these countries. In addition, Ukraine and Western countries oppose the ceasefire, which is an integral part of the mentioned peace plans.
