If NATO delivers Patriot anti-aircraft missile systems (SAM) to Kyiv, they will become legitimate military targets for Russia, Russian presidential spokesman Dmitry Peskov told reporters.
Peskov was asked if the Kremlin shares the point of view of Dmitry Medvedev, Deputy Chairman of the Security Council of the Russian Federation, who previously named Patriot complexes are a legitimate target for the RF Armed Forces if they appear in Ukraine.
“Definitely,” he replied.
Yesterday, December 13, CNN informed about the completion by the US presidential administration of preparations for sending the Patriot to Ukraine, this, according to the channel, may be announced as early as this week.
Peskov stressed that he was not yet ready to comment on this information in detail, since today “media reports are an unreliable thing,” urging them to wait for official information.
Russia’s special operation in Ukraine began on February 24. Russian President Vladimir Putin called the protection of the inhabitants of Donbass, as well as the demilitarization and denazification of Ukraine, its goals. In response, Western countries imposed large-scale sanctions against Russia and began to provide military assistance to Ukraine. Western military aid to Ukraine totaled $40 billion, US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken said November 30. At the same time, the Russian authorities have repeatedly criticized the supply of Western weapons to Kyiv.
The official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Maria Zakharova, has repeatedly pointed out that pumping Ukraine with weapons brings NATO closer to the dangerous line of a direct military clash with Russia.
