The Kremlin commented on the report of the US Special Prosecutor on the connection between Trump and Russia

The report released by the US Special Counsel on the absence of possible links between former US President Donald Trump and Russia during the 2016 election campaign demonstrates the absurdity of the accusations against Moscow. This was stated by the press secretary of the President Dmitry Peskov.

“This is not the first time that the Americans are charging very complex and large-scale investigations, and then the investigations come to the conclusion that there is no interference from Russia. This is absolutely not the first time. We need to be clear about this. Therefore, once again, just those who were involved in the investigation confirm the absurdity of those accusations against our country that were voiced and voiced at various levels of all branches of the US government,” he said.

Peskov also recalled that Russia denied all accusations from the very beginning.

Earlier today, US Special Counsel John Durham introduced report on the FBI’s investigation into possible ties between Trump and Russia during the 2016 election campaign. He noted that while the intelligence agencies could conduct a preliminary check, there was no need for a full investigation. According to Durham, at the beginning of the investigation, the FBI relied on anecdotal evidence because intelligence had no factual evidence pointing to collusion between Moscow and Trump. In addition, the FBI did not conduct the necessary interviews of witnesses or check its own databases before starting a full investigation, although the regulations require this.

After the release of the 300-page report, Trump commented on his social network Truth Social. “Wow! After extensive research, Special Counsel John Durham concluded that the FBI should not have launched an investigation. [о связях] Trump and Russia! – said in the message.

Trump was President of the United States from 2017 to 2021. After his victory in the election, the team of Special Counsel Robert Mueller launched an investigation into possible Russian interference. In March 2019, U.S. Attorney General and Attorney General William Barr presented the details of the Mueller report to Congress. His team concluded that there was no collusion between the headquarters of the former president and Moscow. At the same time, the United States concluded that the Russian authorities still tried to influence the elections: cyber attacks and the Internet Research Agency were used for this. Following this, Barr assigned Durham to look into the origins of the investigation.

Trump has previously repeatedly rejected collusion with the Russian authorities. According to the former US president, his opponents in the elections, the Democrats, had ties with Moscow. The Russian side also denied ties with Trump and attempts to influence the course of the US elections.
