The Kremlin commented on the phone conversation between Zelensky and Xi Jinping

The Kremlin is ready to welcome any steps aimed at bringing the end of the conflict in Ukraine closer. Thus, the press secretary of the President of Russia Dmitry Peskov commented on the telephone conversation between the President of Ukraine Vladimir Zelensky and Chinese President Xi Jinping.

“We are ready to welcome everything that can bring the end of the conflict in Ukraine closer and the achievement by Russia of all its goals. As for the very fact of communication, this is the sovereign matter of each of these countries and the issues of their bilateral dialogue,” he said.

Peskov also noted that the Kremlin is aware that there are common ground in the peace plans of Ukraine and China. “This information was repeatedly presented by both Zelensky and our Chinese partners. The main parameters of these plans were publicly announced,” he added.

Peskov also ruled out contacts between Russian President Vladimir Putin and Xi Jinping in the near future, they are not yet planned.

The day before, April 26, Xi Jinping spent telephone conversation with Zelensky. It was the first conversation between the two leaders since the start of the Russian special operation. During the conversation, the Chinese leader noted that Beijing’s position on the conflict in Ukraine is “to promote reconciliation and negotiations.” He stressed that the only way out of the crisis is dialogue and negotiations.

Xi Jinping was in Moscow on an official visit from March 20 to 22. Putin named past negotiations constructive and successful. Following the talks, the leaders of Russia and China signed a number of statements. In particular, a document was adopted on a plan for the development of key areas of Russian-Chinese economic cooperation until 2030.

February 24 China introduced his plan to get out of the Ukrainian conflict, which includes 12 points, including respect for the sovereignty of all countries, the cessation of hostilities, the start of peace negotiations, etc. Zelensky said that China’s proposal is more like “expressing thoughts” than a peace plan. He stressed that such an initiative is unrealizable without a clause on the withdrawal of Russian troops from the territory of Ukraine.
