The Kremlin has no information about the Belarusian citizen detained in Poland on charges of spying for Russia. This was stated by the press secretary of the President of Russia Dmitry Peskov.

“No, we don’t have any information on that,” he said.

On August 4, employees of the Polish Internal Security Agency detained a citizen of Belarus in the case of spying for Russia, he was charged with participating in an organized criminal group and carrying out actions against the interests of Poland. According to the department, the detainee was allegedly collecting information about critical infrastructure facilities and carried out sabotage activities “aimed at destabilizing the political situation in Poland.”

The Prosecutor General’s Office clarified that the man was detained at the direction of the Lublin Department of the National Prosecutor’s Office, which was investigating a spy network that collaborated with Russian intelligence. The court subsequently arrested the man due to the high risk of absconding. Now a citizen of Belarus faces imprisonment for up to 10 years. It is specified that this is the 16th person who was detained as part of the investigation of this case.

Detentions for spying for Russia in Poland began to be reported in April 2022. At that time, three people were arrested – citizens of Russia and Belarus, who were allegedly collecting data on military units. On March 16, 2023, nine more foreigners were detained, who, according to the prosecutor’s office, monitored the railways and were allegedly preparing for sabotage in order to “paralyze the supply” of weapons to Ukraine.
