The Kremlin cannot give the exact number of Russians killed after the attack of the Palestinian group Hamas on Israel, said Russian Presidential Press Secretary Dmitry Peskov.
“I can’t give you any clear number yet, because you know what the situation is now both in Gaza, where many of our citizens live, and in Israel itself. And for obvious reasons, of course, the information is constantly updated, so now I will not name any quantities right now,” he said.
Peskov also did not provide exact information on the number of Russian citizens who are being held hostage by Palestinian militants.
On the morning of October 7, Hamas began military operations against Israel. In response, the Israel Defense Forces launched Operation Iron Swords, and the government declared the country to be at war.
More than 2,000 people have died as a result of the Palestinian-Israeli conflict. On the Israeli side, more than 1,200 people were killed and over 3,400 more were injured. According to the Palestinian Ministry of Health, more than 900 people were killed, and more than 4,500 were injured. Among the dead are four Russian citizens, the Russian Embassy in Tel Aviv reported earlier.
As before stated Peskov, Moscow maintains an equal position towards both sides of the Palestinian-Israeli conflict, as this will provide an opportunity to take part in the settlement process. He clarified that “one cannot help but condemn acts that cannot be called anything other than terrorism, but one must also not forget what is the forerunner of this situation.”
