Despite the great ineffectiveness on the most vital issues on the world agenda, the UN Security Council remains the only and uncontested international mechanism. This was stated by the press secretary of the Russian President Dmitry Peskov.
Commenting on Turkey’s proposals to create an alternative to the UN Security Council, Peskov emphasized that the Security Council was created as a product of very complex agreements, a very complex international consensus.
“Such initiatives as the one announced by the Turkish side require the same consensus at a minimum. Is it possible in this difficult time, in this difficult period of critical contradictions and conceptual changes that are taking place, only the future can answer this question,” the Kremlin representative concluded.
October 18, after blow on a hospital in the Gaza Strip, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan criticized the current structure of the UN Security Council, declaring the need for reform of the body. Erdogan said that “the world is more than five,” referring to the five permanent members of the Security Council – Russia, the United States, China, Great Britain and France.
