A difficult situation has arisen around the Lachin corridor, Moscow continues to work with Yerevan and Baku to implement all the provisions of the tripartite agreements. This statement was made by the press secretary of the President of the Russian Federation Dmitry Peskov.

“The situation is not easy, it requires additional efforts. And most importantly, it requires the mentioned countries to understand that there is no alternative to the implementation of the mentioned agreements,” he said.

Peskov noted that Russia continues to make efforts to implement the trilateral ceasefire agreement in Nagorno-Karabakh, which was signed in November 2020. The Kremlin spokesman stressed that Moscow is in dialogue on this issue with both Yerevan and Baku, and will continue to work in this direction.

On the eve of April 23, the Ministry of Defense of Azerbaijan accused Yerevan in the installation of a checkpoint (checkpoint) on the border with Azerbaijan without prior approval from Baku.

A checkpoint on the border with Armenia at the beginning of the road that leads to Stepanakert was also set up by Azerbaijan. In response, the Armenian Foreign Ministry indicated on the illegality of the installation by Azerbaijan of the checkpoint in the Lachin corridor. Yerevan also called on the Russian Federation to lift the blockade of the Lachin corridor and ensure the withdrawal of Azerbaijani forces from the entire security zone of the corridor. The Azerbaijani authorities insist on the legitimacy of their actions.

The aggravation of the situation around Nagorno-Karabakh has been dragging on since September 2020, when hostilities began in the region between the military of Armenia and Azerbaijan. As a result, a tripartite agreement was signed. Active hostilities have ceased in the conflict zone, and Russian peacekeepers have also been deployed along the line of contact and in the Lachin corridor. At the same time, the parties periodically accuse each other of provocations and shelling.

Since the beginning of December 2022, the Armenian side has been talking about the actual blockade of the Lachin corridor in Karabakh by Azerbaijani activists, as a result of which there is a shortage of essential goods in Armenian settlements. Azerbaijan responds with accusations of smuggling weapons through the corridor.
