The Kremlin called premature talk about Putin’s participation in the 2024 elections

Russian President Vladimir Putin has not yet made statements about his participation in the presidential elections in 2024, it is still premature to talk about this, declared his press secretary Dmitry Peskov in an interview with the Izvestia newspaper.

“So far, there are no pre-election or electoral moods – Putin has a lot to do. He’s definitely not up to it now. We haven’t heard from him so far any statements where he would talk about nominating or not nominating his candidacy. That is, it is still a little bit premature, ”he said.

The electoral season will begin closer to the fourth quarter, Peskov added.

In 2024, presidential elections will be held in Russia. On January 20, Ella Pamfilova, chairman of the Central Election Commission, announced that the CEC had already start preparations for the presidential elections in 2024. The Kommersant newspaper reported that the presidential administration proceeds from the fact that Putin will accept participation in elections. Peskov then said that preparations for the elections had not yet begun in the presidential administration and in the Kremlin.

At the end of November 2022, the head of state stated that so far didn’t decidewhether he will be re-elected for a new presidential term. At the same time, answering the question about what other goals he would like to achieve for Russia, the president said that “I would like to realize the plans that we have announced, the goals that we have set ourselves for the development of the country.” After that Peskov saidthat in the last year before the presidential elections, the main things for Putin will be “things that need to be completed 100% effectively and victoriously.”
