Former British Prime Minister Boris Johnson’s statement that Russian President Vladimir Putin allegedly threatened him with a missile attack during a telephone conversation is a lie, said Dmitry Peskov, a spokesman for the Russian leader.

Previously, British media, in particular Sky News, led excerpt from a BBC documentary in which Johnson recounted an extraordinary conversation with Putin in February 2022, in which the Russian president allegedly stated: “I don’t want to hurt you, but with a missile it only takes a minute.” According to Johnson, Putin said “something like that.”

“What Mr. Johnson said is not true … I know what was discussed during this conversation. And once again I officially repeat – this is a lie. There were no missile threats. Speaking about the challenges to the security of the Russian Federation, President Putin noted that in the event that Ukraine joins NATO, the potential deployment of NATO or American missiles at our borders will mean that any missile will reach Moscow in a matter of minutes, ”Peskov commented on Johnson’s words.

The Kremlin spokesman admitted that Johnson might not have understood what Putin was talking about, but then, in his assessment, he becomes “a little uncomfortable” for him. Peskov also added that if the rest of the BBC film is “in the same vein”, then it is better not to waste time on it.

Johnson in this film also noted that warned the Russian leader that the West would impose “tougher sanctions” if Russian troops entered Ukraine. In February 2022, Johnson also said that such actions would only strengthen Western support for Ukraine and lead to NATO expansion near the borders of the Russian Federation.
