The Kremlin allowed the imposition of sanctions against Naftogaz – Kommersant

Press Secretary of the President of Russia Dmitry Peskov did not rule out that the Russian Federation would impose sanctions against the Ukrainian company Naftogaz, which is engaged in the transit of Russian gas to Europe. Former head of Gazprom Alexey Miller admitted imposing sanctions against Naftogaz if the company continues to act in bad faith.
When asked if sanctions against Naftogaz were being considered, the spokesman said: “Of course.” “It was a fairly well-reasoned statement by the head of Gazprom, the reasons were stated there why such a possibility was not ruled out,” he noted.
Mr. Miller explained that by the unfair actions of Naftogaz, he means, in particular, “far-fetched attempts” to continue arbitration proceedings in Europe, a multibillion-dollar lawsuit in the United States and violations of the terms of the contract.
In April, the court in The Hague obliged Russia to pay $5 billion in compensation to Naftogaz for facilities in Crimea that the state-owned company lost after the peninsula became part of the Russian Federation in 2014. Naftogaz in June filed a lawsuit in the United States against Russia for the recovery of $ 5 billion, since Moscow “voluntarily did not pay the funds provided for by the arbitration decision.” Kremlin informedthat Russia will consider options for securing its rights in this situation.
