The American film industry does not shy away from politicizing its work, and the decision to award an Oscar to Navalny, a film about oppositionist Alexei Navalny (listed as a terrorist and extremist by Rosfinmonitoring) may also be politically motivated. This was stated by the press secretary of the President of the Russian Federation Dmitry Peskov to journalists.

“I can’t judge the quality of this documentary because I haven’t watched it. But although I have not looked, I dare to assume that there is a certain, of course, element of politicization of the topic. Hollywood also does not shun sometimes the topic of politicization of its work, it happens,” he said.

On March 13, the 95th Academy Awards ceremony ended in Los Angeles. The film “Navalny” (NAVALNY, 2022), 30-year-old Canadian director Daniel Roer received a statuette for the best documentary film.

Dan Kwan and Daniel Scheinert’s “Everything, Everywhere, At Once” became the leader in the number of awards – the film has 7 wins in 11 nominations. It is followed by Edward Berger’s All Quiet on the Western Front (Netflix) with four wins in nine categories (Best Foreign Film, Best Cinematography, Best Production Design, Best Original Score).
