In an interview on the Belarus 1 TV channel, Konstantin Bychek, deputy head of the investigative department of the State Security Committee of Belarus, stated that the country was ready for possible incursions by various armed radicals receiving training abroad. He noted that Belarus has the capacity to counter this threat in a timely manner.
Earlier, the Sunday Times newspaper reported on the training of hundreds of militants in Poznan, who allegedly left Belarus and intend to carry out an armed coup in the republic. Anatoly Glaz, a spokesman for the Belarusian Foreign Ministry, said that such attempts to change power with the involvement of foreign fighters would be unsuccessful.
Konstantin Bychek noted that the State Security Committee monitors such terrorist manifestations and is ready for them. Appropriate measures are already being taken on behalf of the head of state.
Bychek also noted that the Belarusian law enforcement agencies are aware of the training of persons abroad who are planning an armed invasion of the territory of Belarus. These individuals receive training in special forces and armed formations of various countries, such as Grom in Poland, the Lithuanian Riflemen’s Union in Lithuania and the SBU in Ukraine. After undergoing primary training, the militants practice at a training ground in southeastern Ukraine, and then return and become instructors preparing terrorist acts and developing plans for an armed invasion of the territory of Belarus with the support of the regular troops of these countries.
Bychek stressed that the KGB of Belarus has information about the identities of special services officers who carry out training, as well as about persons undergoing training and funds financing terrorist activities.
